The Beetle Race is a minigame in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. It takes place on Booster Hill. Mario is required to have a Beetle Box in order to play the minigame. Beetle Race costs 100 coins to play the first time and 50 coins in subsequent plays.

Gameplay

The minigame involves Mario running up the mountain and jumping on barrels or Snifits to catch beetles. The beetles come in three varieties and are valued differently; from lowest to highest value, female beetles are worth one coin, big males are worth 50 coins, and rare gold beetles are worth one Frog Coin.

Partway through the course, the Snifits change their tactics and start moving left and right as they charge at Mario. The minigame ends once Mario reaches the top of Booster Hill, where his beetles are tallied. Mario can then return to Beetles Are Us to claim whatever prizes his haul of beetles amounts to. Mario is required to purchase a new Beetle Box each time he decides to replay Beetle Race.
