The |appeal= parameter specifies whether the blocking Oversighter has directed the block to be appealed publicly, on the talk page, or privately, to ArbCom:

• Using |appeal=steward (default) makes the template say:

"review the guide to appealing blocks, and then email the stewards at stewardsmiraheze.org"

• Using |appeal=public makes the template say:

"review the guide to appealing blocks, and then appeal your block by adding the following text below this notice: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}. Do not reiterate the information that has been suppressed in your block appeal; if you do, your talk page access may be revoked."
